TERLINGUA MOON
Vol 28.  No. 1
January 3 , 2017

Those are the same stars, and that is the same moon, that look down upon your brothers and sisters,
and which they see as they look up to them, though they are ever so far away from us, and each other.

Truth is powerful and it prevails.  - Sojourner Truth

This week´s issue by    Terlingua Thinking Team! (That´s what I thought!)

27th Annual Black-eyed Pea Off! The new year dawned with a gorgeous day for the Pea Off!!!  There was a record 41 entrees this year. 3rd place went to the three Ivey Brothers; 2nd place went to Johnny Holland and his cooking mate Renate; 1st place and trophy went to a man who has now won the event five times, Robert Hill.  He promises his mantel can hold no more trophies, and will help us judge next year (he obviously knows good peas!) A huge thank you to Mike Marks and friends (the Rafters) for an afternoon of rocking music.
And thank yous go out to El Dorado & High Sierra, La Posada Milagro y Poco Mas, Big Bend Resort and Adventures, Holiday Hotel and the Starlight Theater, Far Flung Outdoor Center, Big Bend Stables, and Lajitas Golf Resort and Spa for their contributions to the Hot Date Raffle. Thanks also go out to the Cottonwood, BBRT, Shot Time Liquors, Earth and Fire Gallery, and Bill Wilson for additional items to raffle.
And the CAKES!  Thank you India Wilson, Cindy Burns, Maria Blosser for helping with that. With the help of our Deputy Patrick we "arrested" Lisa Ivey and put her in the Terlingua Ghostown jail (used once a year for this event)  The crowd raised hundreds of dollars to get her freedom back. $2,685.00 was raised this year for Last Minute, Low Budget Productions. CHAI NEEDS YOUR LOVE! Take one look into those eyes and prepare to fall in love! Chai was picked up as a stray on November 14th. She was a small dog all alone on Alpine’s streets. It only takes a few minutes to love her for who she is. Chai is a three-year old, female Chihuahua mix. She likes other dogs, cuddles and to wear her sweaters. Chai is more than ready to fall into a cushy life, and will thrive in a loving home. For more information about Chai, or any dog at the Alpine Animal Shelter, email heatherthemule@gmail.com

  1. A lot of people worked hard at the Pea Off and thanks. It would have been nice if they would have announced the top 5 or 10....trying to figure out what the Judges want.
