TERLINGUA MOON/ 28 March 2016/ Vol. 27, No. 13

By TwEyelight raven

"I did not want to live out my life in the strenuous effort to hold a ghost world together. It was plain as the stars that time herself moved in grand tidal sweeps rather than the tick-tocks we suffocate within, and that I must reshape myself to fully inhabit the earth rather than dawdle in the sump of my foibles." Jim Harrison 12/11/37 – 3/26/16

The Fire Management Office at Big Bend National Park, in conjunction with the park's Science and Resource Management Division, is planning an upcoming river cane prescribed burn. The burn will take place during the week of April 4, 2016. Ignitions will take place between Solis and Gravel Pit. Approximately seven miles of river cane will be burned, for a total of approximately 100 acres. This burn will facilitate the removal of exotic river cane and restore the Rio Grande to a more natural flow. Burning should be completed by April 9th, depending on weather and fuel conditions. River traffic may need to be escorted through the burn area, and although there could be delays, we do not anticipate closing river traffic. Members of the Diablos International Fire Crew, Big Bend firefighters, rangers, and several outside resources will be called upon to make the burn a success.  Additionally, representatives from Las Madera del Carmen and the World Wildlife Fund will be observing the fire operations in order to foster ongoing international coordination and cooperation on this project. For more information call Ed Waldron 432-477-2397.

Alpine Animal Shelter:  Harper and Hudson are young Jack Russell terrier mixes (littermates) who came into the shelter as strays. Both are pretty unsure about things but Hudson has more confidence than Harper. They need an owner willing to put real effort into giving them (if adopted together, or individually) lots of good, trust-building experiences. Hudson and Harper both take a lot of comfort in each other if your heart and home can keep these siblings together. Both are less than a year old and about 20 pounds. Harper and Hudson have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all shots. The Alpine Animal Shelter is open M-F from 10am to 6pm (closed 1-2pm) and by appointment on the weekends, located on the east side of Alpine on Old Marathon Road. AAS animals are online at https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=TX1202 For more info email heatherthemule@gmail.com

Hi there good folks!  With the influx of submissions for The Moon, we’d like to ask that you draft your submissions as you’d like them to be read.  There’s a lot to edit to begin with but trying to align an event with the sender is getting a bit difficult!  Please don’t forget to submit your information to TerlinguaMoon@gmail.com  no later than noon on Mondays for that week’s edition.  Also, we can’t cut and paste from PDF files or other web-based documents so be sure that anything you want published gets to us in a format we can use, preferably in the “body” of your email!

Finally – if you have a friend or neighbor without a computer, please print out a copy of the Moon and give it to them if possible.  We will not be distributing hard copies of this week’s Moon.
