Terlingua Public Library presents Marlys Hersey, founder of Far Out Hooping in Alpine, for an evening of fun with hoops. Please join us  at the library Thursday, January 21 at 6 pm for an evening of hoopiness. Improve your health and well being; join us in using the hoop to take us through a full range of motion, loosening our spines, stretching and strengthening our muscles, improving our balance, and increasing our joy with this portable and inexpensive toy. Have a hula hoop? Bring it. Or borrow one of Marlys’. Come dressed to move and maybe even sweat. Female, male, young, not so young, tall, short, thin, heavy: this is a program for everyone. That toy you may have enjoyed as a child can be a great means to fitness, dance, joy, a daily movement practice, and community building. Marlys Hersey is a Licensed Massage Therapist, and Hoop Love Coach of hoopdance. Terlingua Public Library is located on the campus of Terlingua Common School District. All programs are free and open to the public.

Slim Fest oNe
Many Terlingua-area residents knew Texas' Most Dangerous Guitarist, Slim Richey.  He and his wife Francie have property in Terlingua and it was their Winter Playground.  Slim died in 2015 and to honor his memory, Slim Fest oNe is happening the weekend of Slim's Birthday - February 11.  The Festival is February 11 -15th and is being held exclusively at The Boathouse.  The lineup is incredible:  Carolyn Wonderland, Butch & Rory Hancock, Ghosts Along the Brazos (together again for the festival), The Jitterbug Vipers, Alan Munde & Friends and more!  Tickets are on sale at www.faroutbooking.com (just click on Slim).  Some packages include camping options for those coming from out of town so help spread the word.  Tickets are also available at the door but you save a little dough if you get them in advance. Let's celebrate Slim in style with the great music and people he loved in his home away from home.

The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem.

Shot Time Liquors
When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Terlingua and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter. -Phil Connors (paraphrase)
"Damn, its cold pass the bourbon!" -Jill (actual quote)

OREO is a fun-loving if slightly timid 1-year-old male, 38-lb cross between an American Staffordshire Terrier, Alaskan Malamute, Australian Shepherd, and Siberian Husky, according to his DNA test.  That amazing mixed bag of dog breeds makes OREO a wonderful fella who is athletic, smart, and very sweet.  He gets over his initial shyness very quickly if he’s shown that someone is gentle and friendly, and then he’s ready for both play and affection. He loves to chase the ball and will easily be trained to bring it back. His early life didn't provide him much attention, but he’s very smart and wants to impress you. OREO and all Alpine Animal Shelter animals are on Petfinder at:
