Important Medical Alert!   LABOR & DELIVERY at Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine is CLOSED until January 3, 2022. Anyone who is pregnant and who goes into labor, or is expecting to deliver during this time period, needs to allow extra time to get to the hospital. The nearest open L&D is at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton. If you know anyone to whom this information is pertinent, please let them know as soon as possible.

7th grade Science class made edible animal cells with Coach Mendoza.
The High School Paisano basketball team played a hard game in Presidio on Monday evening, unfortunately coming up short in the end.
The Junior High mix of boys and girls basketball team took on the Marfa Shorthorns here in the Skydome and pulled out a VICTORY for the home crowd.
UIL Elementary winners: 3rd Grade Fito-4th place Chess Puzzle and 4th grade Melissa-3rd place Number Sense
UIL Junior High winners: 6th grade Isael-6th place Listening and 7th grade Asa-5th place Calculator Applications.
The Career Preparation classes enjoyed a Presentation and Demo by Margarito Luna, who shared his experience and knowledge about working in the food industry.

The Big Bend Citizens Alliance will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, December 22 at the Red Pattillo Community Center at 6PM (this is the rescheduled meeting from Dec 15). The Alliance is a 501(c)3 public charity supporting the Terlingua Community Garden, Canyon View Community Park, Terlingua Recycles, Voices from Both Sides, Terlingua Visual Arts, Terlingua Dark Sky Alliance, & Terlingua Cares. All are welcome to attend this public meeting. Included on the agenda will be discussion & action to change the Bylaws such that our financial structure better conforms to our bank's requirements. The last “official” show is on Wednesday evening, 12/22, from 6:00 to 8:30. Dr. Ottum has his state-of-the-art telescope, camera, and projection system set up at the Bad Rabbit. Witness the great "Christmas Alignment" of the planets . . . . Venus, Saturn's rings, Jupiter's red spot, Neptune, and Uranus -- plus the full moon. There might even be a comet for us to see.  The Cafe staff will be serving Hot Cocoa ($2), Beer or Wine ($3), Popcorn ($3), and Hand Warmers (aka Hot Dogs for $2) . . . . or the full menu in the Café is available until 7 PM.  If you come by the lodge any evening before then12/22, Dr. Ottum will be happy to bring out some of his equipment and show you something special.
 
The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte. We wear masks during the meeting and observe distancing.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem. If you are ill, we respectfully ask that you stay home and call for a "telephone meeting" instead, 432-371-2073. Leave a message and we'll get back to you.

DB's Rustic Iron opens up the Christmas weekend with some Texas music at the venue. Dave Christen will be in from Dallas playing Original Texas Music and covers with an emphasis on Texas music. Music sets will be in the afternoon Friday Christmas Eve and Saturday Christmas Day from around 12:00-1:30 and then again 4:30- 6:00. Terlingua Recycles will be closed for the next two weeks for the holidays. Will reopen on Saturday, January 8 at our regular scheduled hours from 10 til Noon.

The Hal Flanders Recycling Center in Alpine will be closed in observance of the Christmas Holiday Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the 22nd through the 25th.  (Always closed Sunday and Monday).  Hours resume Tuesday from 9 to 5 pm (last load at 4:50 pm).  Have a safe and happy holiday!
