Marfa Public Radio and Big Bend Sentinel Joint Town Hall: Aging And Dying In The Big Bend Region
Seniors living in the Big Bend region struggle to get the care that they need. Many end up having to leave their homes and travel far away at the end of their lives to seek healthcare.
The Big Bend Sentinel and Marfa Public Radio are hosting a joint town hall on aging and dying in the tri-county area on November 21st at Big Bend Sentinel in Marfa at 6 PM, featuring a panel of West Texans dedicated to serving the needs of seniors and their families.
Our aim is to include the larger community in this conversation, with a goal of supporting the next steps.  Speakers include:
Marvie Burton, former director of Hospice of the Big Bend
Suzanne Dungan, Marfa hospice advocate
Angela Juett and Cynthia Kirkpatrick, Agave Home Health
Yvette Lugo, Rio Grande Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging
Linda Molinar, Preventative Care Health Services

All Energies Tip of the Week: Circuit protection is often overlooked in off grid solar installations, because it's pricey compared to traditional off the shelf breaker boxes. Proper DC (direct current) breakers will protect your home, your equipment and make equipment service safer. These boxes are oftine refered to as switchgear by people in the industry. Many inverter manufacturers sell model specific DC/AC breaker boxes. Their boxes minimize connections and protect your investment. Some manufacturers provide a longer warranty when you buy their switchgear. Companies such as Midnite Solar make universal boxes for all types of solar equipment.  If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874

DEZ is just over 2 years old and has spent more than 200 days in the Alpine Animal Shelter waiting to e adopted! He is pretty reserved at first, and can be leery of strangers but once you’re a familiar face, he has a great smile and loves ear scratches. Dez is great at fetch and good with other independent-minded dogs. He has medium energy,  appears house trained and walks nicely on a leash. Like many of us ‘round these parts, he likes his space and his quiet routines. Here’s hoping a like-minded Terlinguan can give him a great home to be his best self! Dez is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all shots. Contact admin@alpinehumanesociety.org for more info about him or any other homeless pet in the Alpine Shelter. The Alpine Humane Society supports pets and their keepers throughout all of Brewster County.
