FROM BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK: Big Bend's superintendent, Bob Krumenaker, cut the ribbon on our new Supercroc sculpture at our award-winning Fossil Discovery Exhibit this past weekend in celebration of Big Bend's fossil fame.  Come check out Deinosuchus and his fierce fossil friends at the Fossil Discovery Exhibit, 8 miles North of Panther Junction Headquarters.
Funded in part by Big Bend Conservancy, this life-size sculpture was designed by park interpretive and science staff using the actual fossils as a guide, the intricate pattern was cut by retired park mechanic Mark Yuhas, and the steel structure was installed by park maintenance staff.  This is an awesome addition to the awesome exhibit!

Make your plans now for the 4th Annual Slim Fest. Slim Richey was a world-renowned musician and part time resident of Terlingua. Slim left us all too soon in 2015 and his wife Francie wanted to carry on his musical legend here in his favorite "playground." The festival takes place at The Starlight Theatre in Terlingua Ghost Town and is exclusive to Slim Fest ticket holders on Friday and Saturday, February 8th & 9th. Tickets are going fast and the advance sale price ends December 1. Tickets sales are capped at 175 and all sponsorships are gone so be sure to get your tickets now at www.faroutbooking.com. One thing folks may not know is that all of the musicians who play at Slim Fest were a part of Slim and Francie's world. Here's this year's lineup! The Guy Forsyth Blues Band, Wood & Wire, Alan Munde, The Bill Kirchen Trio, The Emily Gimble Band, The Paper Moon Shiners, The Spare Tire, Three Hands High, Uh Clem & The Grands, JoBuk Johnson and Slim & Francie's band, The Jitterbug Vipers. Thursday and Sunday are also part of Slim fOUr but open to all and an open mic!

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TX - A National Park Service plan to protect Big Bend National Park natural and cultural resources from the harmful effects of trespass livestock, primarily from Mexico, has been finalized.
As required by the National Environmental Policy Act of 1970, the document and associated Environmental Assessment was made available in May 2018 for a 30-day public review and comment period. Substantive comments were considered in finalizing the document.
According to Park Superintendent Bob Krumenaker, “livestock that move or are herded into the park damage vegetation, soils, and cultural resources that the National Park Service is required by law to protect. This plan provides the framework to control trespass livestock using live-capture and removal methods, and minimizes the effects of control actions upon park visitors.”
Acting NPS Intermountain Regional Director Kate Hammond signed the decision document, a Finding of No Significant Impact, on November 9. The plan, environmental assessment, and decision document are available at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/BIBE.
