SOUTH BREWSTER COUNTY CLEANUP DAY

When?

Saturday, April 27 from 9AM to 3PM

Where?

TERLINGUA Road & Bridge Yard on FM170

What?

A chance to easily dispose of large junk and rubbish.  Acceptable items include plain old junk, like furniture and household items, mattresses & bedding, appliances, water heaters, carpet, scrap lumber & metal, discarded building materials, yard waste, & tires.

v  Please keep tires separate from other junk and remove the wheel.

v  Appliances using refrigerants must be certified that the refrigerant has been
      removed and disposed of properly!

What CANNOT be received?  Commercial waste, car batteries, petroleum products, pesticides, free liquids, or hazardous waste (asbestos, etc).

How?

At each location, Brewster County Trucks will accept your junk & rubbish.  A separate tire trailer will also be on hand to receive old tires.  County Trucks will haul your junk off to the Landfill.

Cost?

FREE to all Brewster County Residents

APRIL 27 FOR TERLINGUA/SOUTH COUNTY.
MAY 18 FOR MARATHON/ALPINE/NORTH COUNTY.

NEW HOURS! – The Boquillas Crossing will change over to Summer schedule beginning Friday, May 3.  Sunday April 28 is the last day of the fall/winter schedule Wednesday through Sunday.  The crossing will open again on Friday, May 3, and through October the open days will be Friday-Monday 9am-4pm.  Please spread the news!

HELLO TERLINGUA PEOPLE! ‑‑ Great news, Trax our local transportation service is changing and is looking to hire a couple of drivers from our area.  You can give us a call for more information.  You must have a Texas Drivers License and pass a pre-employment drug screening. Pay is very competitive and benefits are awesome.

WEST TEXAS FOOD BANK ‑‑ The WTFB truck will be coming in on Thursday April 25, shout out to volunteers . . . should be a fun day.  Food distribution will be on Friday April 26th.  Thank you in advance.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS MEETING ‑‑ if you have, or think you might have, a drinking problem, we meet at 7:30 Thursday evening at the Big Bend Church, just north of the post office.

BIG BEND CITIZENS ALLIANCE ‑‑ The BBCA will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, May 8th 2024 at the Red Pattillo Community Center, 201 Rex Ivey Rd, Study Butte.  Meet & greet at 5:30 PM; Meeting will begin at 6:00 PM.  We are a 501(c)(3) public charity supporting the Canyon View Community Park, Terlingua Cares, Terlingua Community Garden, Terlingua Recycles, Terlingua Visual Arts, Voices From Both Sides, Terlingua Dark Sky Alliance, and the South County Library Project.  All are welcome to attend this public meeting.  Included on the agenda will be suggested changes to the organization's bylaws.  For more information, agenda, & minutes, please email secretary.bbca@gmail.com or text 244‑7656.

COMMUNITY MARKET ‑‑ Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00.  Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textile goods, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms and skin care products, essential oil perfumes, Zoey's leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel, Sandy's super cute pop-up shop and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here. Indeed, lately, chess players have been meeting up for a game or two or three or...

We welcome new vendors. Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. LOST IN SOUND FEST ‑‑ We hope you'll join us for the fourth annual Lost In Sound Fest! Music starts Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4th at 8 p.m. Join us for two nights of live performances, food and drink, and great vibes at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. The festival is completely FREE. Don't miss out on this weekend of music and fun!

OTRA VEZ THRIFT STORE HOURS ‑‑ Wed. and Sat. 9 a.m. to noon - open.  Otra Vez Thrift Store greatly appreciates your donations!  The workers are volunteers who make the store a success without receiving any compensation.   Please be considerate and discerning when donating clothes.  Stained, ripped, worn out with holes and dirty clothing is not acceptable as donations.  No one will buy trash so please throw unusable items away.  Items such as printers are not acceptable either.  Otra Vez is a wonderful part of our community - so please help us by donating items that others will buy!  Proceeds go back into our community!!!

PORCH ‑‑ As it happens - Mostly Sunday and Wednesday afternoons on The Porch - pickers' jam - Just show up, start playing, and maybe more will come!

MANY STONES ‑‑ has a lot of things to sell not rocks or plants.  Ten 150 watt solar panels new, lots of water filter devices, used clothes dryer, propane fridge, pet transportation crates, several propane tanks, photos by Blair Pittman, new electric generator that runs on propane or gas, new electric garden tiller.  Also lots of dry beans and of course cacti, rocks and jewelry.

OBITUARY ‑‑ Timothy Craig Dean, 70, son of the late Charles Webb and Lois (Holler) Dean died of a fall at his home on approximately February 28, 2024 in Terlingua, Texas.  Tim is survived by his children Tracy (Vinodhini), James and April Dean (Nick) Magruder, his brother James, his sisters Charyl (Greg) Thew, and Darla (Roger) Weissenberg, nine nieces and nephews and their children and his aunt Virginia Pizutti.

Tim was a graduate of Auburn High School and Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where he majored in geology. After college Tim moved to Texas where he spent over thirty years using his knowledge of geology and computer science to find new oil reserves.

His Terlingua friends will remember him for his many stimulating conversations about rocks and fossils, the dinosaur bone he found in the National Park, and of course his many memorable performances at La Kiva's karaoke nights.
