“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne

MILKY WAY TREATS
Ice cream trailer is open Sat, Sun, Monday, 4 p.m.-9 p.m., right next door to The Boathouse! The Milky Way Treats bakery cart is open on Saturday mornings, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., next to the Community Garden. ¡Gracias, Terlingua!

COMMUNITY GARDEN
Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00.  Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

We welcome new vendors. Come set up in the shade to sell your wares. Flea market items are welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textiles, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms, hand balms, essential oil perfumes and sugar scrubs, leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, and more -- you never know just what you'll find here. You might even a local painter displaying her lovely, colorful works and a locally famous jerky maker on hand selling his tasty wares. Don't forget the Milky Way Treats pastry cart too!

Do you have mad skills and smart, practical talents you'd like to share? We all love to learn about sustainable arts and useful skills here in Terlingua. Let's talk about a workshop.

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.

MUSIC BASH
For 30 years Music Bash has been a wonderful congregation of San Antonio, Austin and New Braunfels musicians in the Terlingua Ghostown on the 3rd weekend of October.

We come and go, do sightseeing and end up together playing music here and there. It's fabulous.

The Bash took a hit over Covid but it's back this year. Through the Funky Junk event on Saturday at The Boathouse we will be donating to a scholarship benefiting the Terlingua Independent School District.

Get down there, you'll find yourself in the middle of good friends in a whole new world. If you can find a B&B or other accommodations fine but if not bring a tent and camp for free. The weather is almost always perfect, that's why we do it on this particular weekend.

MALCOLM'S OBITUARY
William Edward Malcolm MacRoberts died at his home in Terlingua, Texas, on August 8, 2023.

Malcolm was born on November 22, 1960, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Nancy and Peter MacRoberts. As a boy, Malcolm would spend hours lying in a field watching planes flying overhead and daydreaming about the skies. As a teenager he had his pilot’s license before he learned to drive a car.

He graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1978 and attended Sul Ross State University for two years until he decided “enough school” and left to pursue a more adventurous path.

Malcolm was meticulous, stubborn, strong willed, big hearted, and very, very funny — all personality traits that suited his life of river guiding, fire fighting and EMTing. In his work, Malcolm touched multiple lives, guiding folks through rapids, jumping out of helicopters to
fight fires, and delivering babies in the back of ambulances. In his down time, Malcolm was always quick to tell a terrible joke and leave his audience groaning. He will be remembered with a big smile.

NEW LAW - FROM TEXAS TRIBUNE
This new law will help health care workers save lives in ambulances that cover wide-open West Texas

The emerging technology, paid for by a grant established during the 2023 legislative session, will help emergency health care workers talk with doctors in emergency rooms to better care for critical patients. bit.ly/3LkUBB0

TWO LOCAL FIRES - PRESS RELEASES
At approximately 0629, Monday, September 11th, Terlingua Fire Units were dispatched to the report of a structure fire at Big Bend Resort. Upon the arrival of Tinder 1, a single-story family dwelling was found to be partially involved with flames and smoke showing from the Bravo side of the structure. The fire started on the front porch and spread to the exterior wall of the structure. The fire burned through the wall and began to run through the insulation. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and stopped the fire progression interiorly. Other than minimal water damage inside the structure and smoke damage, the structure can be salvaged. Two occupants were inside asleep at the time of the fire. A huge thank you to local citizens for taking care of the occupants and attempting to control the fire prior to TFEMS' arrival. Deputies with the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office also began to battle the flames prior to our arrival. Terlingua Fire units were en route, on scene, and had fire containment within 15 minutes. Approximately 200 gallons of water was used to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

At approximately 1410 on September 9, 2023, Brush 1 and Tinder 4 were dispatched to the report of a grass fire on the Terlingua Ranch. Upon the arrival of Brush 1, a single story structure was found to be fully involved with heavy smoke and flames showing. The fire spread to a pile of railroad ties on the Charlie side of the structure. Terlingua Fire units were en route, on scene, and had fire containment within 38 minutes. The fire was started by an overheated motorcycle battery charger on the Bravo Side of the structure. No suspicion of arson. Approximately 400 gallons of water was used to extinguish the flames.
