Day of the Dead Event
Just a reminder that I will be stationed somewhere near the Cemetery to take photos of those of you that have gone to the trouble of getting dressed in costume. I’ll have some sort of setup (Mimi is helping with this), the purpose of which is to photograph those of you in costume and add the images to “The Terlingua Project” photos that we have previously taken. The project team will be back on the 12th and 13th of November to complete the project.
For those of you who haven’t heard about us previously, our mission is to record for history a moment in time in Terlingua. Participants will receive a 10”x15” black and white image of themselves at no cost for participating (to be delivered via mailing tube after the images are processed). More information about the shoot on Nov. 12-13 will be posted on the “Our Terlingua” Facebook page soon.
Hope to see you November 2nd. Terry Cockerham

Big Bend Library Book Fair
Big Bend Library is hosting the Scholastic Book Fair this week to raise money for the library. Pre-K - 3rd grade students have each chosen a book for the school wish list. We’re asking members of the community to stop by and fulfill a student’s book wish. All of the books selected are under $10. It’s also a great opportunity to Christmas shop for all the young ones on your list. All money raised through the Book Fair goes directly to the library. This is a good way for the community to help offset the money lost by the county’s decision to cut our library funding. Big Bend Library is open from 8-4 Monday-Friday.

Best Bowl of Red:
http://www.texasmonthly.com/travel/best-bowl-red/

Meet MayaMaya is magnificent. She is a 3-year old black lab mix with who was picked up as a stray in Alpine on 9/22/16 and though she seems like she must have been an owned pet, no one came to pick her up. Maya has an amazing disposition and is very well-behaved. She prefers people to other dogs, though she socializes just fine with them in playgroup. She has a gorgeous coat, super-silky ears and is housebroken. When we’ve walked her through the cat areas she shows mild interest and thorough respect. This pretty-much-perfect dog will bring much joy to her new home. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all shots. She can be adopted for only $50 until November 12th. For more information about Maya, or any pet at the Alpine Animal Shelter, email heatherthemule@gmail.com

Veterans Day Closure
The Brewster County Courthouse will be closed on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
