~  VOL. 26 #2 Your Attendance is Critical
This month's Terlingua Common School Board meeting will be held one week earlier than is the normal schedule. TCSD's bills are paid at regular, monthly meetings, and January 21st would have made some bill payments near past due on that date. This Wednesday's meeting - Jan. 14th - will be held at 5:30 p.m., at the Big Bend High School. This is the first meeting of the year, and with a fresh new Board of Trustees. Now is the perfect time to begin anew and start fresh. Hopefully, this new year will see more PARENTS, TEACHERS and COMMUNITY MEMBERS attending on a regular basis. The participation of you ALL is critical toward the goal of making TCSD the best it can be. You do not have to have children enrolled in school to get involved. You only need the desire to see excellence in learning and administration of YOUR school district. Please plan to be there. The Starlight Theater and Restaurant Tue 1/13 - Uh Clem Wed 1/14 - J. Unofficial: Brewster County Tax Rollback passes by a 7 to 1 Margin http://bigbendgazette.com/2015/01/13/unofficial-brewster-county-tax-rollback-passes-by-a-7-to-1-margin/ We got the petition to require the election, the election had low turnout but was nevertheless a huge success, and I think we've got one more task to ensure that the rollback is a complete success. Can you help with educating your friends and neighbors about the fact that all the OTHER property taxes we pay - to the cities, the school districts and the hospital district - have not changed and are all still due by the end of the month? I feel like I'd be really remiss if I didn't point that out. Yes, we'll all get new property tax bills. Yes the county component of those bills will be lower and we'll have an extended delinquency date on those (probably early May), but failing to pay the OTHER property taxes on time could result in penalties and interest that are actually more than what we've saved on our county taxes. I don't want my neighbors to get hurt by the expectation of lowered bills and later deadlines. (Julianne Braun, the might and muscle behind this effort) EXTRA!!!
