“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” ~John Muir

Brewster County Commissioners Court held a called meeting on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at 9:00 A.M..  After a brief Executive Session, Commissioner’s Court voted unanimously to accept the Consent Decree and Order as presented and authorize Brewster County Judge, Eleazar Cano, to sign the Order.  The Consent Decree and Order was drafted in response to pending litigation styled as Freedom From Religion Foundation  et al. v Brewster County, Texas et al.  The Consent Decree shall not be construed as an admission of liability and is entered solely to resolve the claims brought forth in this lawsuit and to rectify claimed constitutional violations associated with the display at issue in this lawsuit.  Brewster County’s insurance carrier has agreed to pay legal fees and costs related to the suit and nominal damages ($1.00 ea.) to the two Plaintiffs..

BREWSTER COUNTY CLEAN-UP DAY - SATURDAY, JUNE 18th
Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that Brewster County has plans for a Clean-Up Day (Dump Day) on Saturday, June 18 from 10am-3pm at the Brewster County Yard located on FM-170 (River Road). The Solid Waste Management Grant we received in April for the Clean-Up Day and Scrap Tire Disposal has a performance period that ends in July, so we must get it done!
The County will be using a grant-funded cargo trailer we received last year for the Scrap Tire Disposal Project to collect all your scrap tires. We will also be accepting most all waste that the Alpine Land-Fill takes. However, no hazardous materials including asbestos and batteries can be accepted, and any appliance using freon must be certified that the freon has been removed and the freon disposed of properly before the County will accept it.
Brewster County will follow-up with more information regarding the Brewster County Clean-up Day in the media and on the county website.
Hugh Garrett, Commissioner
Brewster County Precinct 2

Almost Full:There are currently 25 wonderful dogs in the Alpine Shelter, reflecting wonderful variety of age, breed, gender, size and personality. There are four heeler/heeler mixes, an Australian shepherd, five pit bull terriers in a range of colors and sizes (adoptable Buck is featured in the photo), three black labs, two jack Russell terrier mixes, a min-pin, two Chihuahuas, a german shepherd, two husky mixes, a hound-catahoula mix and then Pippen, who is such a perfect mutt we can’t begin to guess at his breeding. There’s been a major adoption lull at the shelter and we’re relying on the community to spread the word, come check out a new pet, and encourage local animal rescue. All Alpine shelter animals neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. You meet them online at https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=TX1202 and for more info about any one of them, email heatherhortonhall@gmail.com
