UPDATE/POSTPONEMENT: Terlingua Public Library's next presentation with Marlys Hersey, founder of Far Out Hooping in Alpine, an evening of fun with hoops, originally scheduled for Thu. Nov. 19 at 6 pm, has been postponed because Marlys will be having surgery next week and needs to recover fully before she can get her hoop on and whoop it up with y'all at the library. Please join us to Thursday, January 21 @ 6 pm for an evening of hoopiness. Improve your health and well being; join us in using the hoop to take us through a full range of motion, loosening our spines, stretching and strengthening our muscles, improving our balance, and increasing our joy with this portable and inexpensive toy. Have a hoop? Bring it. Or borrow one of Marlys'. Male, female, young, not so young, tall, short, thin, or wanting to slim down a bit: this is a program for everyone. That toy you enjoyed as a child can be a great means to fitness, community-building, and a daily movement practice. Marlys Hersey is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Hoop Love Coach, and Hoola-Fit Instructor. Terlingua Public Library is located on the campus of Terlingua Common School District. All programs are free and open to the public.

Big Bend Ranch State Park is pleased to invite you to our 5th annual Thanksgiving Dinner and guided hike at the Sauceda Headquarters. Bring your friends and family, and join us for a wonderful holiday meal catered by Marfa Table. Only in Far West Texas can you get away from it all and give thanks in surroundings that are quiet, remote, wild and scenic.Dinner will be served between 1 and 3 pm and will be followed by a short guided hike around the Sauceda Nature Trail. We’re serving pecan-smoked turkey breast with gravy, cranberry-orange relish, mashed potatoes and stuffing, green beans and carrots, and apple bread pudding with caramel glaze. The Nature Trail is an easy 0.9 mile hike that loops the historical Sauceda complex. It passes through country that is typical of the Chihuahuan Desert and Llano area of the park. There are signs along the way that identify some of the most common plants you will see during your visit to the Big Bend. From the top of the hill you will enjoy the best view of La Mota Mountain and the historic Sauceda complex to be seen anywhere in the park.

We're not calling SPECKLES a cattle dog just because she has truly beautiful markings like a cow - she is all heeler in personality! SPECKLES is about 35 pounds, has her tail, and is a Velcro dog. She shows no signs of trauma from her life on the street and looks longingly at the shelter volunteers for guidance and attention. Young, healthy and highly athletic, this happy dog will make a wonderful family pet or companion for an active person willing to take their dog everywhere. SPECKLES loves to play ball and is good with other dogs (but is truly man's or woman's best friend material)! The Alpine Animal Shelter is open M-F from 10am to 6pm(closed 1-2pm) and by appointment on the weekends, located on the east side of Alpine on Old Marathon Road. All AAS animals are online at https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=TX1202 For more info email heatherthemule@gmail.com

In the near future, the H2O 2 Go bottled-water operation will be moved to the Bee Mt. Hardware Mall. If you have empty bottles that you have forgotten to return, please bring them back as soon as possible.  Each of those non-returns equates to $7 each, and that means an average of $400 + per year that we have to pay for. We sincerely appreciate the 98% of our patrons who have abided by the honor system. It has worked pretty well. But the other 2% has made it necessary to rethink our blind-trust policy. There will be cameras in place at the store from now until the actual moving of the business.   If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Burrs at 371-2506.
